Cost of doing business
Objective information about the cost of doing business in Vermont, and
Bennington County in particular, portrays a very competitive business
environment. This includes looking comprehensively at the cost of labor,
taxes, utilities, unemployment insurance, workers' compensation, health
insurance, professional services, construction, many raw materials, and
housing and other consumer products and services.
We are so confident that the facts bear out this assertion, that we invite
businesses doing site searches in the Northeastern U.S. to accept "the BCIC
challenge": We will pay a CPA of your choice (or we can provide a CPA
knowledgeable about Vermont, New York, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire) to
do a systematic comparison of the cost of doing business in our community
versus competing ones in the Northeast. (BCIC's contribution is normally
capped at $350.) If the analysis concludes in favor of siting the business
in Bennington County, Vermont, we will ask no further questions. If it
concludes otherwise, we would like to know the basic reasons so that we can
work to address them. Our experience indicates that we will usually win, a
fact that may surprise some.
