Bennington County has a rich sense of history, of place, and of New England ambiance. Home to Robert Frost and Norman Rockwell, its artistic largesse includes an extraordinary fabric of talent and expression in the visual arts, literature, theater, and music. There are 51 galleries and performing arts centers in the locale. The Clark Institute's premier collections are five minutes from the county line, as is the Williams College Museum of Art, both in Williamstown, MA. The Bennington Museum features a comprehensive Grandma Moses collection. Museums featuring Norman Rockwell works are located in Arlington, Rutland, and in Stockbridge, MA. The nearby Capital District of New York is less than an hour away. Besides, in about three hours you can be in Manhattan, Boston, or Montreal.
High quality drama and music are found at Bennington's Old Castle Theatre, the Sage City Symphony, the Bennington String Quartet, and the Center for the Performing Arts in Manchester, which hosts the Vermont Symphony Orchestra in the summer. The New York City Ballet summer season is at nearby Saratoga Springs, NY.
Professional, semi-professional, college, high school, and youth sports are amply represented in the region. Bennington County has four golf courses and another in Williamstown close at hand. First rate soccer programs welcome players of all ages and genders.
Outdoor sports second to none winter and summer include all stripes of skiing, biking, boating, fishing, hunting, and hiking.
